I’ve decided to join the One Room Challenge, hosted by Linda, of Calling It Home. It features 20 designers, and their 6 week journey of completely making over the space of their choice. I will be joining in as a guest participant, and sharing the progress I’ve made in my room of choice here on the blog each Thursday. It should be fun!
I am hoping it gives me the motivation I need to finish up our boys room. Since moving them up there last Christmas, there isn’t a lot we have done for that space. We built their Land of Nod inspired bunks from scrap wood, and that’s about it! The room is in need of some major finishing touches.

I have added a few personal touches to our bedroom and Fin’s room, so it only seems fair to give a little love and attention to the boys room. Here are a few photos from when we first moved the boys upstairs.
A few main items we will need to address:
- Storage (toys, clothes and books!)
- Decluttering (it looks ok here, but that’s because I don’t have a picture of the mountain of toys! ha)
- Stain/Paint
- Finishing off the trim
- Creating a play area
- Window Coverings
I will hope to put together an inspiration board for next week, and share more details with ya’ll. This week has been crazy, so I am a little late jumping in, but so happy to be a part of the madness 😉 I will be keeping the blue and white Pottery Barn quilts but I think we will be saying goodbye to the red accents- and instead going with some grey and natural wood tones. The words that float around in my mind are cottage, coastal, camp! The three C’s apparently. Looking forward to seeing where that takes us!
Let’s just hope there is lots of progress to accompany this little adventure!

You already have such a great start on this room! I love the bunk beds, great job on them! I can’t wait to see how your room turns out! It will be such a fun space for your boys! Also, LOVE the lockers!
Thank you so much! Time to get to work 😉
I love the plank walls! It’s so cozy.
they are just my favorite!
What stain did you use on the planks? We are in limbo as to what to do in our cabin renovation. We are thinking white wash on some and stain on others. It will all be pine shiplap. I have already looked at your diy whit wash but am wondering more about the natural finish. I understand I can’t just leave it unfinished or it will yellow with time. Thanks!
Hi Alisa, if you would like to leave it natural a clear polyurethane is a good option. Just sample first as they can sometimes yellow upon application.
