Salvaged Finds {Progress in our Room}

We are slowly making progress in our room. I would love to be able to buy some new to us furniture, and we really need a new mattress… but until that day comes, I am making do with what we have. My “dream bed” goes between a black iron frame, or a plush upholstered frame with some natural wood detailing… dreammmmy.

So far, when it comes to our Master Bedroom {yesss Masta…} I’ve updated our wicker nightstand and added a writing nook.

This next change is one of the most fun to date! We still have work to do, but I wanted to share or DIY Barn Door… sort of! First off, if you know me, you know I love me a good barn door. In fact, I have an entire Pinterest Board dedicated to them! We knew we wanted to have a barn door style door somewhere in the house {mouthful!!}- our closet proved to be the perfect spot! We started off with a pretty nasty track salvaged from the building that is now our film studio.

original track and castorsI gave everything a good wipe, and sprayed it down with Matte Black spray paint. It made SUCH a difference!matte black barn door trackStorm door on barn door hardwareantique storm door handleThe door is the original front door from our farmhouse. Can you believe that and an old storm door is all that was between us and -40 winters?! Brrr…matte black spray painted castorsI looked at purchasing vintage castors from Etsy, but I found these for $1.68 each from the HD. I spray painted them in the same matte black as the track…and voila! I’m a happy camper 😀castor detailThis doorway is still a work in progress! We waited to install the trim because we wanted to see exactly how this would work… We mounted the track to a 1×4 on the wall so that we would have room to clear the door trim and baseboard. We wanted to see where the track would line up before we did the finishing trim work. barn door progressYou get the idea! All of our trim is 1×4 MDF. {baseboard, windows, and doors} Most of our doors and windows have custom headers that Matt built…window trimHowever this door way will be a very simple trim job. I would love to eventually strip the door of the varnish, and have just the raw wood finished with a light oil. However, that’s a one day some day project at this point 😉

I’ll be back tomorrow to share a SUPER easy Bunting project! Yay #craftlady. Also, just a reminder that this Thursday is the #ThriftedFindsLinkParty. I’d love to have you join us! Maybe someone will link up this time?! #jokes
