Room Makeover: A Baby Boy Nursery for Our Little Bear

I have been so daunted to start this project, but I am finally doing it… I’m creating a baby boy nursery for Baby T! It’s time to move him to his own room, if only for him to have a quiet place to nap during the day in this busy house! The tromping up and down the stairs is enough to make this mama crazy!

We added the board and batten and attempted to get everything painted before our move, but I didn’t finish off the baseboards. Isn’t that they way it goes sometimes? They chose the color, and its just too….. blue. I will also be painting the wood trim out in white. After living with it for six years just in case… yes I want to paint it white. I might try to strip the door, like I did with our now closet door. I find that the color of the trim is just too deep/orange for me.

I am trying to do this on a tight budget (as close to free as I can!) so I’ll be repurposing and using items that I already have. Being on a budget really forces me to get creative… lovely limitations. I’ll be moving the dresser that we currently use for him into the room.baby boy nursery | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

I would also love to find a white or light colored crib. If I can find something used, I will. We have a cherry convertible sleigh crib that is just massive… I’d prefer to sell it, and get something different, but worst case I will probably paint it. Don’t talk to my husband about this… all I can say is that it’s ok to want to switch something up after 10 years… right?!!

If you’ve been to my house, you know this room has been a crap/storage/catch all space. It is essentially like a storage room that we never use for anything- but I am in the process of dealing with all the stuff! It was daunting to start, but it feels so good to have the room cleared out.

I will still need to keep some storage in here, so I will do my best to keep it out of site. We also have a small chest freezer that lives in here. Maybe it sounds weird- but we really have no other place to keep it! We don’t have a basement, a large closet or a garage… and this room is right around the corner from the kitchen. So, it will have to stay. For the function it adds to our family, I will just embrace it- which means pretending it’s not there.

So, hopefully I can keep up steam to work on this room. haha. Strike while the inspiration is hot right? Some things that are on the list:

  • paint the walls BM Grey Owl lightened by 50%
  • paint the board and batten, baseboards and trim in a fresh coat of white
  • restore vintage air vents
  • new light fixture
  • art
  • door for the closet
  • storage
  • organize small closet
  • chair/rocker/glider of some sort
  • curtain rods & drapery for blocking out light
  • rug

I think that’s a good place to start! I was able to get the blue painted over yesterday…. and I love it so much more already!baby boy nursery | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dancebaby boy nursery | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

Now to tackle the trim, and figure out lighting! I am looking forward to creating this little nursery space!
