Adding a Dash of Cheer in the Hallway With Floral Wallpaper

It seems wallpaper is a very black and white subject. You either love it or hate it. Those who hate it have very strong feelings about it, often stemming from inheriting a home with unwanted and stubborn paper. I personally quite like a good wall paper, but I have been very intimidated to hang it.

Floral Wallpaper | This Mamas DanceWhen we bought our little cottage 6 years ago, we added board and batten in the small hallway that connects the bedrooms and bathroom. I purchased wall paper to hang above the board and batten and have been storing it in a closet ever since. I got really nervous to hang it!

Floral Wallpaper | This Mamas DanceWell, my reservations were justified. I am not very good at hanging wallpaper. However, I am on a mission to purge and organize so the wallpaper was either getting given away or going up on the wall! I opted to put it up on the wall. It is so far from perfect, but it very much brings a smile to my face!

Floral Wallpaper | This Mamas DanceThe first sheet I applied far too much paste. I was nervous of applying too little, but too much made for a lot of bumps… the seams of the wallpaper are not perfect, I think because it sat in the closet opened for six years. haha. Oh well!Floral Wallpaper | This Mamas Dance

Floral Wallpaper | This Mamas DanceAll these years later I still like the pattern and color scheme. I’m thankful I didn’t purchase a really expensive paper and try to hang it on my own. If the imperfections really bother me, than I will take it down in the future.

Floral Wallpaper | This Mamas DanceThe kids and Matt said to carry on, so I did. And I’m glad. I’ve still got a little patch to finish to the right of the door (I am further along than the above photo, but I didn’t grab a picture of that!)… my goodness it’s tricky to get stuff done with four kids! I am learning to just push through and FINISH, even if we eat supper late, or I am up late- because once things get packed up and put away, it’s such a hurdle to get back to that project.

I gave all of the trim and board and batten in here a fresh coat of paint. I would also like to strip the doors down to see if I can get rid of the suuuuper orange tint. When I’ll get to that though- who knows! I’ll be sure to update you when this little hallway is “finished.”

Do you have any projects that you have put off because you got intimidated? Have you ever tried your hand at hanging wallpaper? I’d love to hear your tips or experience with it!

  1. about 30 years I wallpapered almost every wall in our Bungalow, I was so into it, doing it all by myself , then years later trying to remove 😳it was impossible I am never putting up wallpaper again ….🤗

    i do love yours though✨✨✨

    1. hahaha! Oh Mizzz Deborah that is too funny. I remember the wallpaper in your house! I think this hall and maybe the small wall in the entry are the only walls that will get it. I have seen a newer peel and stick option which seems rather smart to me!
