These Are My People

As many of you know, on October 1 I took part in the Red Deer Ride For Refuge. You might remember my slightly spazzy yet informative video:

You may also remember that it was a bike ride to fundraise for individuals facing hard times, as well as to raise funds for the North American Tour of She Has A Name. Well a little update on that for ya- the Red Deer Ride has raised $19,572 and counting! Isn’t that awesome? Our team the Biker Chicks raised over $2,000! (way to go ladies!)

And while it is pretty neat that people were so generous, you know what really struck me as we gathered together that {chilly} Saturday Morning? These are my people. My people. Some familiar, some new, some dear friends and family, and others completely new! Old people, young people. My people. People that are willing to hop on a bike and ride 70km up hills and down, challenging themselves physically, mentally, emotionally. People that will ride along side a mama pulling her 2 little ones, and even share the load when the going got tough (thank you Brie and Christine!) People that will stay out on a chilly Saturday all day to greet registrants, and serve them a meal. Provide hot coffee and baskets of fruit. The kind of people that when asked, will say, yes! The kind of people that are excited, creative and passionate. The kind of people I am blessed to know.

Willing people. Loving people. Regular people.

Extraordinary people.

The kind of people that catch the vision and run away with it. The kind of people so many need in their lives, to use their voice to make a difference. To Raise the voice of those that are muzzled, so that they can be heard!

I am so grateful to each and every one of you who were a part of the Ride For Refuge! I thank you for being someone important in my life, and the lives of so many others around you.
