Happy Thursday! I had been planning to share a few of the simple treasures from my birthday, which I celebrated back in November but didn’t get to it until now. I went out for an afternoon shopping adventure with some birthday money and found a few things to add to our open shelves, so I thought I would share with you how I used them! While I used to thrift frequently, life just hasn’t allowed for that much these days- so it was a fun reprieve that I definitely want to do more often.
First up I went to the sweetest local flower shop. She always has the cutest little pots, and her prices are great! I love this simple cement planter with the little wooden dowel feet. This plant is called a Kiereweed and has a sweet soft whimsical feel. It does well in low light to full shade- so it’s a great little house plant.
I also couldn’t resist this white Kalanchoe. The pedestal planter was too too cute! Those white blooms against that deep green foliage is right up my alley!
I rearranged our kitchen shelves just a smidge, and one thing is for certain… I LOVE the old books I picked up from a new to me antique shop. They were a few dollars each, and are pretty much the perfect color ( I didn’t even look at the titles!) haha But I would love to find more books in different tones of bluey/greens. I’ll have to revisit them. I also found a fabulous old croc there which I used for our kitchen Christmas tree.
I am so very smitten with that vintage chalkboard green color, and will definitely be adding more to our house! The question is how and where exactly… These books looked great over Christmas time, and will easily transition into spring… Because I don’t like to store a lot of decorative items, I love when things aren’t delegated to one season. The colander belonged to Matt’s grandma.
The final little thrifted treasure I’ll show you today was this blue wall hanger. Someone obviously painted it, since it’s actually brass. I figured I’d change the color but once I got it home I kind of like it as is. I may add a plant to it, but for now it’s adding a nice little pop of color. What would you put inside it, if anything?
And while it’s not from my birthday- I wanted to give you an update on my lipstick plant!! It has grown so much, I had to move it to the top shelf- and if you look closely at the top you can see some of the flowers that started opening this week! For reference here is what it looked like when I first brought it home:
So it seems to be thriving which makes me so happy! Though there are a few leaves with some yellowing… so perhaps I’ll give it a light feed with some fertilizer. For the most part I more or less neglect it- so it’s a winner in terms of house plants!
I’ll be back tomorrow to share a bit of an update on the kitchen. If you follow me on instagram than you know that we started painting the wood planked ceiling! FINALLY! I just decided it was time… and I can’t tell you how much I love it already! It feels so much brighter, and it has me ready to address a few other changes I want to make in the kitchen…
Thank you for stopping by today. xo

mizzzz ash that is such a sweet cement planter and looks so perfect with the delicate leaves of the plant…the shelves looks so appealing they draw the eye over to such a beautiful collection… the lipstick plant obviously loves its location, they are one of my favourite plants, they give so much and ask so little in return, just like a cat…
you house is such a beautiful “home” 🏡❤️💚💜
Thank you for your sweet words. I like that cat analogy- it is so true!! It is fun to display little collections and try new houseplants out. I am learning to enjoy them more and more!
