While many parts of the blogosphere and insta-world are littered with spring this and spring that, we’re still doing this…
Enjoying snow days and lacing up our skates!
Hi, my name is Ashlea and I live in Canada.
I would be lying if I didn’t get a teeny, tiny, tinge of envy at the pictures of spring bulbs popping through leaf littered grounds, or ballet flats and skirts… But this year I am making a conscious effort to soak in the season. The upside is, my kids LOVE winter. I mean love. Love, like the toddler stands at the window and cries when it’s -15 and I have made the executive decision that she can’t join her brothers outside because it’s too cold! Love like, she isn’t even 2 and she can put on her own snow pants, hat and mittens.
This was a snow day from last week and it was one of my favorite kinds of winter days… warm with big fat snow! We couldn’t resist heading into our backyard to skate. Yep, us Canadians do weird things like make skating rinks in our backyards, because we can. Truth be told, ours was a struggle this year because we didn’t start with a super smooth base, then it kept snowing and the ice was lumpy… but, it’s still fun!
This is by far the best winter we have had. Not only because 2 years ago was armageddon, and this year has been mild- but because for the first winter in the HISTORY of mine and Matt’s married lives, he isn’t doing snow removal. The winter side of his landscaping co was snow removal- so every morning it snowed he’d be up and out the door around 3:30 so that everyone had their walks and driveways cleared before they went to work. When it snowed for a week straight that was a sad time… ha! Before we had kids I worked right along side him and his crew clearing snow, but I will admit I was happy to have a reason to stay warm in my bed once babies came into the picture 😉 Once we moved out to the lake it was a worry for me having him driving on the highway and bad roads- so while it was good for a season- I am happy that the 10 years of snow removal are behind us and I can rejoice in things like falling snow and white Christmas’s again.
And we can have ridiculous moments like this:
My kids make me laugh… I mean come on! Is it mean I shared this picture on the internet?
Last year we put together this “Day to Night” video of life at the lake, and I thought I’d share it again. We enjoyed a beautiful skate- and then had rain, which made the perfect conditions to skate through the streets- so Matt and the boys went and skated around our neighbourhood at night. Pretty fun! I love having little videos and photos of these times to look back on, plus little baby Fin makes me nostalgic. Babies grow too fast!
Canada is a pretty amazing place to call home, heres to snow days and skates! The tulips will be here soon enough.
Hope you are enjoying some sunshine, whether Spring is springing, or Winter is lingering.
