Indoor Plant Lady Status

I am an avid gardener, I love plants, as we know!! But for some reason I have never been much of a plant lady when it comes to indoor plants. Perhaps it’s because many of them are tropical, which isn’t really my vibe, and few rebloom for me. I’m sort of all about the flowers when it comes to plants…But- this fall I am trying to be proactive in bringing a bit more green into our home to get me through the winter!

I ravaged my window box first, and took in some pink geraniums and ivy. The ivy has struggled to find it’s groove- I think because it is so incredibly large ( I may cut it back) but the geraniums are incredibly happy!

I never fertilize my indoor plants, and really need things that thrive on neglect. haha. But- I am going to try to be a bit better about that!

On a side note: the basket wall behind the piano is temporary… my father in law offered me a stack of old baskets from their church- and I had also been collecting a few- so I decided to experiment with the many nail holes already in place on this wall. I really love the look- just not here. They don’t work (to my eye) with the tone of the piano- so I will be moving them to another spot in the house.

Aside from the plants I brought inside, I also bought a few more small plants for the kitchen. I hung some terracotta planters by the sunny window, and placed a few plants on the counters and kitchen table. They do their part to clean the air, and add life to the rooms of our home.

My lipstick plant (which I have had for quite some time!!) got moved to the top shelf- and it’s putting on a bunch of new growth! Makes me happy to know it’s happy.

Are you an indoor plant person? Do you have any favorite indoor plants, or recommendations? I’d love to hear what works in your home!

  1. Beautiful photos Mizzz Ash…
i used to love my indoor plants but because we go away in the winter I have sadly given up having them…my favourite indoor plants were geraniums and lipstick, I love those two plants….even if the geranium gets leggy I loved it all the more because it became so whimsical, both of those plants are pretty hearty and neither one of them like to be too wet… another one I loved was a Christmas cactus, I could almost ignore it and it would still have beautiful blooms…
plants indoors add beauty and nurture our soul through the harsh winters in Canada…

    1. Managing plants getting watered when you travel is difficult! I have lost a lot of plants because of this- but I think we will be around this winter, more or less. Finley gave me a Christmas Cactus last year for my birthday, and it has bloomed two more times since then! It just finished actually. You are right, they seem to be pretty low maintenance. I’m so happy to hear you’ve kept geraniums, thank you for the tips!
