My mom, Anita, gets many a mention on ze blog. She inspired within me much of my gardening, crafting and decorating zeal. I did after all grow in her belly. Today I am going to share with you her beautiful California Kitchen- in Texas. I have never met anyone who is so good at making you feel like you are hanging at a seaside cottage, when in actuality you are just outside of Dallas, Texas. Home is where the heart is <3
Without further adieu here is my mama’s kitchen!
My mom painted her existing cabinets in white, and changed out the hardware. This completely transformed the kitchen! I could not believe the difference the first time I saw it. Ps. Take note of the funky fan on the upper right cabinet- love this 🙂
She utilizes pops of red through out the kitchen, with a vintage retro vibe through items like this pop corn maker, accented with accessories. Love the little Costa Rican license plate too.
She converted a wine rack into open shelving, and lined the interior with bead board. This allows her to display some of her thrifted antiques, cook books etc.
Yes, this is what my mom’s kitchen looks like most of the time. Function meets fun in the tin storage jars, and glass cabinets allow her to display her cute dishes!
Here is a photo of the original cabinet finish. This is from my mom’s office area, which was converted from a kitchenette area for a mother in law suite. I will say I love the white sooo much more!
Right around the corner from the kitchen, my mom has a built in china cabinet and an open eating peninsula. She chose to switch things up a little bit here (though it is hard to tell) The cabinets are painted in a muted tone of turquoise, one of my mom’s favorite colors, and is accented with pink knobs.
She carried the “Tiki”feel from the china cabinet over to the sitting area at the eating bar. Have I mentioned my mom loves the beach?
She placed bead board directly over the existing green tile backsplash, and at really allows everything to pop!
The double ovens allow for lots of cooking space when we have big family dinners, and the drawers provide for ample storage.
I hope you enjoyed a few shots of my mom’s fabulous kitchen! We haven’t even touched on her island or dining area, but we will leave that for another day. I really love how my mom has used antiques to incorporate her color scheme of red and white, while still allowing for alternate color patterns within her displays. It is such a cute space, and I am always getting good ideas! (take note of her bead board backsplash ;-))
Thanks mom for sharing! 🙂
