Clothing, Closets and Meal Planning

This year I am focusing on three areas to help me be more organized, declutter our home, and positively impact our health and budget! I am focusing on small, simple, bite sized steps- and I would love to have you join me if you feel inspired, or feel free to just keep on keeping on with what’s working for you!

While some people LOVE new years resolutions and goal setting, I know that many people don’t love to make resolutions, or push for big changes in the new year. I am kind of one of those people, however I do really love the motivation that a new year brings for me. At least this year it does- so I am going to use that little nudge to make some positive steps to simplify things in my life.

I started in December by doing a clothing purge with my boys- cleaning their room and sorting their toys. We might choose some things to give away, but at this time everything has a place so we are good there.

Next I moved on to our bedroom closet. I pulled everything off the shelves- working on 2 shelves at a time. Donating and deciding what to keep. I didn’t plan on doing the entire closet, but the baby napped- and the more I went through the more motivated I became! Funny how that happens. I went through all my dresses, shoes and clothing items. It is so nice to know I have clothes that I like, will fit, and have a tidy place to call home.

With 6 people in the house, and 2 boys who play sports and are very active- laundry seems to pile up constantly! It makes it a little bit easier to have tidy drawers and closets, and to have old sizes that don’t fit moved out.

The final area I am paying attention to this month is meal planning and prep. We more or less eat 3 meals a day at home. Matt isn’t here for lunch- but the rest of us are! So- that’s a lot of meals in a week. The beauty and the pain is that we live away from restaurants and fast food- 😉 If you know what I mean. So I “have” to make our meals- there’s no skip the dishes or a quick drive around the corner to eat out.

I spend quite a bit of time cooking, and I especially love it now that I have a completed kitchen! But, I like to use my time effectively and one way I can do that is by meal planning and prepping. I want to do a better job of planning healthy lunches, as well as prepping for dinners in one go- instead of making individual meals each and every night of the week. I need some quick meal nights, as our kids have sports 3 nights a week.

Those are three tasks I have done or am doing that are making life a little bit easier right now. It feels good! Are there any areas you are trying to “clean up” in the new year?
