As I sip my first coffee of the morning, I sit pondering life through the eyes of a 3 year old. The questions that swirl in his mind, and eventually make it out into the verbalized atmosphere.
“Why do we love eachother?”
“Why do bodies have to poo?”
“Why do we live here?”
“What are you doing to my stairs? Why are we taking off the line draw?” (see: lino)
These are all good questions. Ones I too have pondered. I especially am pondering the last one when I take a look at my stairs… more specifically I ask “What have I gotten myself into?” It feels a little bit daunting when I realize I have only uncovered 6 stairs, with blasted lino bits adhered to the risers. Why oh why did they use so much glue? The scrubbing of the glue is not particularly bad… it is the removal of the cardboard bits that is a bugger. I don’t want to even think about the bottom 5 stairs that not only have two layers of lino but a sheet of subfloor in between with delightful staples…
They remind me of the reno of ’08 when we replaced our upstairs flooring, and said goodbye to the vast majority of the white lino… Someone was Staple HAPPY… honestly, I have never seen so many staples in my life, and we have about 8 staple removal tools to prove it! We found the winner in the end… That was a nightmare. So at least I am not doing that again- which in all fairness I was about 9 months pregnant in ’08 and didn’t do a lot of the staple pulling… ahem.
However, I am telling myself that this will all be worth it in the end. Funny how you live in your house for years with things unfinished, slowly picking away at projects. But when you get the notion to sell said house, the big push comes to get everything finished! Because the new home owners won’t want to live with white lino or a 30 year old tub. mmm hmm.
And if we don’t sell our house, for one reason or the other, at least things are finished and the way we would like it. That’s the thing about doing things on a budget… you develop new tastes, for things less ordinary. That’s how I like to look at it. And then you blog about it.
Speaking of which, here I was so organized that I had a string of posts lined up for this week- yet they are all 95% finished, and in need of a few pictures! Must upload. Suddenly it is Wednesday and I have not posted a single one… alas. I have decided to write a new one, because… that just made sense some how.
There truly ARE some fun furniture redos and the lovely fireplace shots to come… and, really excited to share Gabriel’s birth story! So- hope you will check back in this week 🙂 I will be a little more organized?
Thanks to all who weighed in on the stairs both on the blog and FB. I appreciate your input! I too love the yellow, but alas am not quite brave enough or with enough time to go for it on this flight, but they sure are fun! Looks like I will be going with white, and am toying with perhaps vinyl numbers or words so that future home owners could remove if they desire… Almost thought I could stain the steps, but, not happening because of the subfloor and 30 yr old lino on the basement half…
