Every week I have intentions of writing more posts on the blog, yet suddenly it’s Tuesday again, and time to put together a post for a ORC update!! This week has been all about getting the last of our Ikea Cabinets, and everything else on site… so many moving parts! (if you’re just joining in catch week one and week two)
While we are completing this room over the course of the ORC ( fingers crossed it all comes together in time!) there have been months of planning to get everything together! Monday Matt picked up the last of the IKEA kitchen cabinet boxes, Thursday our windows will come (did I mention we decided to bite the bullet and replace the old original windows throughout the original part of the house? more on that later, but we did…) and Friday we will pick up our KITCH doors!!!
Here is a sample of our cabinet color and profile. Everything will be the color on the right- with the 2 uppers flanking the stove in the pure white- same shaker door profile.
Isn’t it purdy?
AHHHHHHH! Guys, we are practically going to have a kitchen. We’ve bought the faucet, and have the new sink on site. I ordered the hardware and am waiting for it to come in the mail. The final things we need to get here are the pine for the ceiling, the tile for the backsplash, lighting, and counter tops… Oh wait. And appliances. Ok- there’s a lot.
We will spending the next few days prepping- we need to decide how deep we want to go and if we will insulate the outside wall. The joys of an old house- there is no insulation in the walls, but I think we’ve got shiplap on this exterior wall, and it’s so much work to remove. We will also be expanding the window over the sink. . It’s going to be glorious!! I love windows- as you might be able to tell from our living room in the addition. You can never have too many in my opinion- at least I can’t.
Framing in the pantry area has ended up adding much more functionality to our kitchen- and heres why. It has allowed us to put in new electrical outlets without having to open up walls. It will also house new switches, and the Central Vac outlet. It’s so much easier to put in this stuff when you have open studs… so Matt’s happy, and I’m happy. I really wanted to get a central vac outlet over here, and this is gonna be relatively painless. We will be wrapping the walls in the same tongue and groove that is on the stove wall. I feel like adding in a few “built in” elements will really give the kitchen a more custom feel.
We also started up school on Monday. It was time! We took our kids out to Vancouver Island to visit family- while Matt had some work trips for his latest film project. It meant that a ton didn’t happen in the kitchen, but it was so incredibly worth it. It was so good to just step back from the crazy here, enjoy nature, and spend time with family.
Looking forward to next week’s update. I have a feeling, if things go according to plan, that it’s gonna be awesome!
