When I built this pallet headboard, I had always intended to give it a coat of paint. The thing is, once I had the boards in place, being the natural wood lover that I am, I had to grab a few photos of it. My husband loved the look of the wood- but I painted it white anyways 😉 For something inspired by Fixer Upper- it had to be white shiplap. I told him I could always build another!
For the natural look-I gave all the boards a quick coat of mineral oil- just to enhance the warmth of the wood. I thought I would share it with you as inspiration for a slightly more rustic take on the pallet headboard.
The boards are a variety of widths, colors, and species. There is a rather dark, extra worn board on the bottom- which I actually really love. You can catch a glimpse of it in the first photo.
The warm wood pairs so nicely with the white shiplap, don’t ya think?
The old nail heads and wear and tear of the wood are much more noticeable when left au natural. Which is a great thing if that is a look you love!
And then of course there is that scallop which I just can’t get enough of.
I’m feeling like a set of matching twin beds would be pretty darn adorable… which finish do you gravitate towards? White or Au Natural?

I really like the natural! ?
🙂
Thought I would like the natural, but I’m really loving the white!
Thanks Kate for weighing in 🙂
