I recently had the opportunity to try out a few more of Fusion Mineral Paint’s products and immediately gravitated towards the color “Lichen” from their Penny & Co Collection. It’s a perfect neutral green if there could be such a thing. It’s a bit of a grey green, and it pairs beautifully with the white uppers and marble hex tile.
If you’ve followed along here for a while, then you will remember that we purchased these in stock cabinets from Rona when finishing our addition. We also got the quartz counter top from the “bone yard” of a local stone company- it was a remnant piece and worked perfectly for us.
I wanted to do a painted two toned look on the cabinets but have been stumped on choosing a colorfor the lowers. I tested out a blue and a grey, respectively… but neither felt like the one. So I painted the uppers in Benjamin Moore Simply White, and left the lowers alone….
Until now! They’ve sat unpainted for many years, and while some people love the dark wood look, but with our floors and the tones in our reclaimed wood mantle, it was just a little too much for me. So lichen it is!
I used 2 coats, and the coverage was amazing. I also tried out the staalmaster brush, and boy does it make for a smooth finish. I painted the boxes, and then the drawers. I also applied their “tough coat” product.
Full disclosure that I had some issues with it bubbling here and there. Although it does recommend applying with a sponge brush- which I didn’t do! Darn!! I read over it all… waited the 12 hours, but missed that note the first time. So if you use the tough coat, follow their advice and apply with a sponge brush or roller.
Now to get the hardware on and take a few photos of the finished product! I love the feeling this brings into this room so much… it’s just ahhhhh.
