Our Spring Mantel

It’s been a while since I have changed things up on our mantel… Saturday afternoon Finley and I made a trip to Home Sense, with a gift card in hand. I had originally planned to purchase a specific clock, however as is often the case with stores like Home Sense, the clock was gone when I arrived. So, we walked through the store, and I kept coming back to the spring decor. I don’t know why, but I have always loved topiaries. I love most green plants, but topiaries are just so enchanting. So, I decided to just buy one! Yes it is faux, but that just means I can’t kill it 😉 I asked Matt what he thought about it, and he said he likes living things.

Well then.

I knew I wanted to try the topiary on the mantle, and this is what I came up with!

My mother-in-law gave us several bunches of daffodils to welcome Spring… we had a big snowstorm and it seems like a foot of snow fell! But at least Spring is here in the house.

I had fun creating this chalkboard design. A doodle here, a doodle there… it was inspired by the lovely boxwood wreaths I often see. I don’t have a wreath, so this will do. The bottom reads “flowers everyone” and was Matt’s idea… I asked him “what should I write in here?” while he was watching sports. Flowers are what I look forward to most about Spring, so it fit perfectly.

I also grabbed this faux fur from Home Sense… it technically is a rug, but I don’t mind. I love how soft it is to cuddle up to! robins eggcottage mantle 2Don’t mind the fireplace stone I have still yet to finish!! Someday soon I hope…

Saturday I had a lovely surprise! The Nester included Our Gallery Wall in her weekend links to inspire round up. It was a bit of a funny thing to be featured on Miss Mustard Seed Friday, and then the Nester the next day. These are both blogs that I have read for many years, so it was surreal to say the least! It’s an interesting lesson for me in just trying things… there are so many unfinished pieces in our house, and when I look at our Gallery wall, I see many details waiting to be completed. Yet, that collection brings me joy every time I look at it. I have been feeling the push in several areas of my life to just step out and try, and not be afraid of the what ifs, the imperfections or trying to wait until the perfect timing! Vague, but oh well.

I’d love to hear about or see some of your spring decor! How do you prepare for the changing of the seasons? My sweet friend Jodie reminded me about fresh cut flowers after Thursday’s post. Right now our garden is buried under a foot of snow, but soon enough there will green, pinks, purples… I can’t wait! I hope my tulips are surviving!

  1. Yes, I just found your lovely CANADIAN blog through The Nester and I am delighted. We have tons of fresh snow here in Cape Breton but luckily we LOVE winter so the more, the merrier. There are lots that don’t share our optimism…..

    1. Nothing like going out with a good bang 🙂 March would be an early Spring, but we definitely had a tease here in Central Alberta the last 2 weeks with very warm temps. So happy to have you reading along!
