My boys and I were recently asked to participate in a pilot class for a new Red Deer program offered by Dance Magic Studio, called Musical Magic- “Music Pups.” It runs in 8 week sessions, and is offered to children from 5mths to 4 years.
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate, especially because it is a class that works for both of my boys age groups, they are 16mths and 3years of age. I have found it sometimes difficult to take part in engaging activities for them outside of the ordinary, both because of their age difference, and the fact that I only have 2 arms! E is quite independent, but that extends only so far. We go on walks and to the park, but things like swimming are pretty much impossible without an extra set of hands (and eyes!) I love to do things that are physically active, because I notice that their moods improve, and bed time is just a bit smoother 😉 In the fall of last year, E and I attended a Mommy and Me 8 week dance session, which was great, but, I did have to arrange for someone to be with G for those mornings.
The moment Musical Magic began, my heart was so touched! Ms. Karen sang the welcome song, and went around to each child singing that she was happy to see them. Watching each child light up at hearing their name, whether they were itty bitty, or preschoolers, was so precious! Ms. Karen is so wonderful with kids, and both of my boys were not only comfortable, but gravitated towards her. This is a class that I think we will plan on taking during the year. The boys love the music, and there are different opportunities to sing, dance, and play with different musical instruments.
I had wondered how the class would be structured given the large age gap, and the amazing thing is, is that it works! The age differences were not a problem at all, everyone was having a blast, from the little 6mth old to the older ladies in the room! (not old ;-)) It was also so neat to see E walking around holding G’s little hand, excited to experience this with his little brother. I love the freedom of this class room environment, I can see that it will truly help to foster a child’s love for music.
If you are local to Red Deer, please take a look at Dance Magics Music Programs (they offer piano, guitar and voice lessons for older children as well) to learn more about their classes. And if you aren’t, I would recommend looking for a similar music program in your area! It is so neat for little ones.
I might be biased, but I just love our Dance Magic family. How many places can you go where you can enjoy music and dance classes with your little one, and be welcomed to Zumba class with both of them in tow! Miss. Christine has created such an amazing atmosphere for families, and I am so blessed to be a part of it!
