I have to admit that this years garden ( we have a zone 3 garden) has been a bit of a disappointment. We had very poor weather in May and June.. snow, rain, unseasonably low temperatures… it was a bit of a mess. Plants have performed poorly, and with the added “pressure” of the flower farm, it really seems things are moving along at a snails pace. Yet finally, we have had some sun.
We are two weeks into our bouquet subscriptions, and there are many plants that I thought would have been ready by now, but I guess we will just have a fabulous end of July and August! Right?!
I snapped some photos early July and I am thankful, because I do see some progress…
We’ve had so much rain! So things are green, and we’ve had a hard time keeping up with the growing grass and weeds. I’m really looking forward to seeing the buds on the flowers open up, and each day there is more! They are loving the sunshine and heat after all this rain. Here is a shot of the garden early July…
This row has especially filled in since that photo was taken. (even though the zinnias ended up getting completely shredded by hail… they’ve finally recovered) There is also honeywort, marigolds, larkspur and snap dragons at the end of the row. Each day Theo and I take a garden walk looking for bees. It’s so sweet, and I adore his wonder.
The honeywort, marigolds, snaps and sunnies are all budded up and will soon be bursting with blooms… oh I can’t wait!! This little Teddy is such an outdoors boy. I love sharing the garden with my kids. They watch every seedling and bloom with excitement. It’s so sweet.
I’ve been waiting on this peony bush to bloom for years!! I brought it from our old house, and then moved it again- which they definitely don’t like- and this year it finally bloomed. All of my peony bushes did pretty well… they’re so short lived, but goodness do I love their blooms and scent.
I’ll do my best to put together a garden tour in the next few weeks, when things are really bountiful. Growing a zone 3 garden isn’t without it’s challenges, but gardening season is my favorite time of year, no matter the zone we live in. Looks like I have some weeding to take care of after all this rain!! Any flower or garden things you’d like me to share on the blog? I’m always happy to chat flowers…
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Hope you are having a lovely week.

hi mizz ash
I love the photos of ur gardens, I know how difficult zone 3 can be…that’s a great shot of theo standing in some giant plants, it looks like it’s right out of a children’s story book💫
Thank you Mizz Deborah. One day I’ll live in a Zone 5+… thats what I keep telling myself 😉 Nothing better than little ones wandering through my garden, it’s my favorite.
