This morning I have found a cozy spot in a sun beam, vanilla latte at my side and the feeling of keys beneath my fingers. Not much to report, other than I felt the need to pop in and say hi. Things are slowing down a bit as I near the tail end of this pregnancy, and start to let the reality of a new little one in our family start to sink in.
Matt and I have been busy dreaming and brainstorming about how to get things “done” before baby comes, and while some things seem to go sooo smoothly, other days we are met with road blocks. Like 2 weeks of weather in the -25 to -40 range… yuck! Did I mention there is no heat in our addition? So, that caused some road blocks with the electrician. Thankfully yesterday Matt and I were able to spend the day hanging boxes, pot lights (ok, that was all Matt) and finishing some framing around the fireplace. Did I mention we got our fireplace in? And?! I love it! It is a wood burning unit, with doors and a fan… and it can really crank out the heat! It was such a wonderful feeling to have the installers show up, and get it all set up in a day. This is the FIRST step in our build that has not involved my husband. Yesterday we were up in the boys room hanging boxes and lights, and he said to me… ” Can you believe I built this house? Because I don’t think I can actually believe it…”
I can believe it. But then I also can’t. This is not what he does, but he has done a beautiful job! I think back to stomping around in concrete after laying plastic and filling wheel barrows in the crawl space. My sweet husband left our name in the cement and it will always be there! The arrival of our joists and lumber… step by step. Lifting the insanely giant 17 foot wall… and all the walls to come. The beams, installing windows, and our triple slider… building a deck. Siding the house… Shingles, skylights… I mean really. He is awesome.
Yesterday was one of my favorite kind of days. I peered out the window and watched the boys with sticks in hand, jumping like wild ninjas on the tramp, having the time of their lives. Matt and I enjoyed an afternoon cup of coffee out on our back deck, and worked side by side on our home. I love those kind of days. That is my happy place. Just living together, learning together, sharing with one another. G’s favorite part was the handful of colorful marshmallows 😉
I think we are all breathing in a deep breath, as it seems that we are seeing a little inch of spring. The snow is slowly melting and the temperatures are creeping into the positive for a few days in a row. The boys are trying to convince me it’s t-shirt weather.
