So, our stair case is the only flooring we have not updated. We live in a bilevel, and have a total of 11 steps- up and down. It is the first thing you see when you enter our house, and the white Linoleum is hideous. We have wanted to update it for a while, but, stairs are not always the cheapest to change out…aka, they can be expensive. We have thought about tiling them, but that is quite a hard surface with little ones. We have thought about laminate or even hard wood- but the stair nosings are kind of what get you there… so, I have been contemplating other options, and saw a cute stair case in my younger sisters historic walk up style apartment… and then my wheels started leaning towards the less conventional.
I am currently toying with the idea of painting it. A few years ago we built a new railing in white and cedar stain (thank you habitat) for under $100. Here are some pics that I have been looking at for inspiration, and I’d love to hear you weigh in… I was thinking white? I love the idea of a stained step with a white or bead board riser, but I think that will be a little too pricey, but who knows? Anyone have experience with this? Which is your favorite?

I love the numbers in French, but I also like the different patterns in yellow-that style would be really pretty in eggplant purple, or a brick red!
