My husband bought some wood to make blocks for our boys. I am not even going to say how long ago it was, but we have finally done it! He just cut them into square pieces, and then we hand sanded any rough edges. Today E and I stained them with a light wash, and I love how they turned out! The colors actually dried darker than I thought, and they have such a nice earthy glow. Blocks are great for building towers, villages, bowling… you name it! And how much better when they are made with love. If you have little hands that are eager to help, the staining is a good time to let them be a part of this project, as long as they are old enough to manage.
These blocks could also make cute room decor in a vintage style kids room- with a few blocks stacked on a shelf coordinated to match your theme! We have a few old items displayed (bus, book, stuffed toys) in my sons room- and a few of these blocks with his initials will probably follow soon!
I will probably make a beeswax sealer for these (which I have never done, but found a recipe for) and they will be finished! Until then though, they boys will still play with them!
awesome!
