This summer we hosted a Brush Lettering Workshop at Maker House Studio and I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of what it is all about! Many of you have followed the journey of building Maker House- it’s been so much fun to share. You can find our web series, and all of the projects from Maker House Here. (like our DIY Shiplap, Chevron Wall and Harvest Table Build!) Maker House is a hub for creativity and small business. It’s also our personal studio for operating Matt’s film business, as well as the web, photography and marketing work that I do.
We are pretty thrilled to work with a local Brush Lettering Addict and Calligraphy Artist, Gian Lee. She is so fun, knowledgable and enthusiastic about sharing the Brush Lettering love.
I met Gian through instagram- and she is just the most bubbly, sweet person! Brush Lettering is soooo beautiful, it seems hard to believe that a novice can learn to do this- but they really can! Gian has created a series of amazing worksheets and it makes it so straightforward to begin the Brush Lettering journey.
We are running another class at the end of September, and have had so much interest! I think it’s just about sold out for anyone local, but we will be running another class in November. Matt put together this 30 second video promo… it’s just so fun! If you hit the play button it should work for you!
The class lasts two hours, and it’s like a deep breath for the creative soul, while being a crash course in all things Brush Lettering. Ha!
One of the biggest tips for success is to use the right tools, in the workshop we provide each attendee with 2 different brush pens, the Tombow Fudenosuke Calligraphy Pen and the Tombow Dual Brush Pen. They’re both a bit different and take some getting used to!
Seriously!! How beautiful is that? Gian just wrote that on her flip chart in seconds… and it’s a piece of art. I need to practice, practice, practice!! Because I feel like a kid just learning to make her letters when I try my hand at brush lettering. In the mean time I know a girl that has some pretty beautiful prints and banners. 😉
If you’d like to check out some more of Gian’s work you can find her on instagram .
I love seeing Maker House filled with people, exploring creativity, learning something new, and connecting with others! It is a huge part of our vision for this space.
