Alfresco At Last: Summer Tablescape

AlfrescoBanner

Welcome to patio season! I am thrilled to be partnering with Wayfair Canada to bring you a little inspiration for your next outdoor dining experience. Whether you are gathering with friends, or family, it doesn’t take much to create a pretty centre piece that you can customize all season long. During the summer we try to make the most of our beautifully long days by eating outside as much as possible. I love those evenings when the sun doesn’t go to sleep until sometime around 10 o’clock.

Succulents are becoming a new favorite of mine, they are so low maintenance. I would venture to say just about anyone can grow them. I had the perfect rustic crate, that I pulled out of an old warehouse, to convert into a planter for a neutral succulent garden. I simply lined the inside with heavy plastic, added pea gravel for drainage, and planted my succulents with appropriate potting soil. I sealed the wood with a quick coat of teak oil. Voila! This can rest upon the table all season, with or without fresh blooms.

I wandered around the yard with some shears and snipped a few branches to create a pretty garland of greenery to act as a runner, atop some inexpensive wrapping paper. Is anyone else totally in love with giant garlands? I love them, and I literally used scotch tape to connect the branches. Don’t judge. It might be genius.

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop DIY Tip: When you can’t find fresh, use faux- these inexpensive topiary balls add a bright hit of green without breaking the bank. (I wanted to make a joke about them rounding out the table scape. But I didn’t)

When building a centre piece, I like to work in layers… first the runner (in this case a paper one) then the garland, next the succulent box, then place settings- and finally a few beautiful peony blooms for an added layer of texture and color.

I found the sweetest little white dishes at the second hand store… they aren’t quite cups or bowls, but they reminded me of a tulip, and I couldn’t resist them. I think they would make such sweet little sorbetto bowls.

You can shop Wayfair’s Dinnerware for a variety of place settings perfect for you next outdoor barbecue. They have the most stunning gold dipped honeycomb stemless wine glasses, which are very similar to the ones I used here.

There is beauty in the ordinary, and I think that is something worth celebrating.  I can’t tell you how happy I am that Wayfair has come to Canada- they literally sell almost anything you can think of, and better yet they offer free shipping. Yay! I have noticed that they offer a lot of seasonal sales on different collections, so be sure to watch those for even better pricing.

This pretty table has me dreaming of garden fresh bouquets… I got our garden planted, let’s just saw I may have gone a little flower crazy. Gardening season is my fave. How about you? What are a few of your favorite blooms? I would love to hear for both annuals or perennials.
