Our Small Laundry Room

Our laundry room has always been a bit of a stumper, but it started to all make sense last year when we framed in a closet, and added doors to keep everything tucked away. Prior to that we just had curtains. (you can catch that project here) While it may be small, I really love having main floor laundry. It is in the centre of our home, so it’s just off the kitchen, and our main living area. It’s 100% convenient, albeit a very small laundry room.

I decided to hang up the hand painted “grocery” sign that I made a few years ago, just above the doors. I free-handed it, and the imperfectness of it bugs me a little- but will I really sand it off and repaint it? Not any time soon… so up it went! It was the perfect fit, and ties into the reclaimed light too. You can catch a glimpse of this space mid reno here…

My how life has been busy lately, not leaving me a ton of time for “extras” But I so enjoy sharing with you guys. So, I thought I would also share behind the doors, and the view of our small laundry room.

We have a stacking washer and dryer. I keep laundry baskets on top of the machine, and in all honesty, there is a usually a small stack of laundry piled on the floor in front of the washing machine. To the right of the machines I have a few items stored, and a roll away bed that we use for company.

The reason we have a stacking set is that we have a trap door to the right of the washing machine- which is our access into the crawl space below! As far as crawl spaces it’s pretty good- in that its all poured concrete, lit, with 4 foot ceilings- so no crawling actually goes on when we need to go down there. I would love to add a bit more upper shelving in this small closet though- just to give me a little more added storage!

While I love the beautiful, multi-purpose laundry rooms in many new homes- this little laundry room gets us through just fine. It’s not fancy, but it does the job. If you like mudroom/entry/laundry stuff you might enjoy these posts. I’m almost done moving all of our pantry items over to the newly renovated kitchen, but there are still a few things in here. Now to decide what to do with the built ins when they’re empty…. hmmm

We have another freezing day here in Alberta… so I made soup in the instapot. I tried this recipe. I’ll let you know how it tastes! I also whipped up some regular and gluten free biscuits- because I guess I am craving comfort food. It’s such a nice feeling knowing I won’t have to make dinner tonight…
