I am participating in Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk Linky Party!
Welcome to our Christmas Home Tour! I am teaming up with some of my talented Canadian Blogger friends to bring you our homes cozied up for Christmas. This is, without a doubt, my favorite time of year to decorate! I LOVE our “Christmas House.” You should definitely stop by everyone’s tour, as there is a little something for everyone- and so much inspiration! Thank you to Christina from the DIY Mommy and Shannon from Home Made Lovely for hosting and organizing the tour!
If you are new here today, thank you for stopping by my little virtual corner of the world. My name is Ashlea, and I am a mama to four, married to a film maker- and have been sharing little bits of our family life, diy home build, and budget decorating life here at This Mamas Dance since 2009. Christmas is my favorite time of year to decorate for- and the way that I do that all starts with fresh greenery.
We recently renovated our original 1940’s farmhouse kitchen. We documented it as part of the fall One Room Challenge- you can catch a full video tour and tons of photos, sources, and details here, if you are interested in more details.
I have been eyeing the battery operated “fairy lights” for a while, and found this set at Home Depot. I just love them. They give off a nice warm glow, and the bonus is I don’t need to plug them in at all. The battery pack is nestled on the open shelf.
We haven’t gotten one yet, but I am planning to put up a little kitchen tree this year. We spend a ton of time here because I homeschool- so we are in the kitchen and dining room doing school for about half the day. Not to mention feeding the wolf pack!
I brought the fresh garland into our living room as well.
If you are wondering- yes it get’s dried out, and can “litter” the area with greens. I soak my greenery, but I find it still dries out rather quickly. It does maintain it’s green color though, and looks quite lovely.
I always make a wreath for our mantel, but haven’t this year! I still just might, but we will see as to when. It might be a fun thing to do after all the Christmas Decor comes down, as a transition into simple winter decor- who knows!
I really was feeling kind of stuck without that wreath though- and was rather liking it bare. I added the white lights, and I can not tell you how cozy the glow is at night. I love white lights.
I heart this stairway, and I love it even more with fresh garland draped on it. I didn’t go too too crazy- but I think this is just the right amount. It’s so sweet and wild with these home made ornaments- that Matt and I made 7 or 8 years ago- nestled in.
I’ve made several of these pom pom garlands over the years, and I love the coziness they add. So simple, but like a soft warm hug. Our stockings are also handmade, and I made the white “mini greenhouse” frame last year. I guess I enjoy making stuff! I am hoping to make a tree skirt this year. I’ve got something in mind
I did end up switching things up on the piano wall just a bit- since sharing with you the other day.
The last little spot we’ve decorated is our bathroom… it’s funny because we don’t have our tree up yet- and my oldest son got gifts for his brother and sister. My daughter has since set the wrapped presents on the bathroom counter “under the tree.” We better hurry and get that tree up!
I didn’t realize that I am definitely getting more “minimal” these days. We only have 2 Christmas bins- that mostly hold ornaments, lights and some nativity scenes. The greens and some lights really add a festive touch. Maybe I’ll add more here and there… but I am enjoying just watching it unfold.
I hope you found little bits of inspiration. You can find me on instagram and youtube– if you like to connect there too. I hope you can find some time over the weekend to pay these other talented and sweet bloggers a visit! It means so much to each and everyone of us that you take time to read, comment, pin and share these posts. More than anything my hope is that you have a blessed Christmas season.
