So, originally this is where I left our mantel, thus the reason I took a bunch of photos. I guess in a sense things are rarely complete, because I am always tweaking little things, but after I took these photos, I felt like I wanted to bring more yellow into the equation. That’s when the yellow chalkboard made it’s appearance, and that’s what I shared yesterday. However, I thought this arrangement was cute too and decided to post the photos. This is just a spray painted mason jar… I have several of these. It was a MOPS craft years ago. The ironstone was thrifted for a few dollars… it just moves around the house as I see fit. The chalkboard cost $1 from a thrift shop. I wrote the “I love you“‘s a few years ago and haven’t ever changed it. This used to be in our room, but made it’s way into the living room a few months ago.
I love the look of old bread boards… and I have always wanted to start a collection for our kitchen. I don’t get out much (hahahaha) well, at least not to shop… so I made this one out of the scraps from our mantel. It’s the underside of the board, and was filthy. I simply free-hand traced an outline in chalk, and cut it out with the jig saw. I then sanded it down and put a little vegetable oil on it to bring out the warmth of the wood. It almost passes as the real thing.
Which do you prefer? With or without the yellow chalkboard?
If you haven’t noticed, I have a bit of a thing for chalkboards. I actually love the color of the old green boards. I had decided to keep an eye out for a large chalkboard to put in our dining room, but figured I would probably have to make my own. I like the chalkboard paint and have used it often, but it’s just one more job I couldn’t justify doing right now. Imagine my delight when I spotted 2 chalkboards for sale on kijiji. THEY. ARE. HUGE. I am talking 8 feet long…we just hung one today, and I am hoping to get a post up later this week… I think I love it!
