We finally have pendant lights in the kitchen! It took me long enough to decide on something- but I think these are they, and I am me. We are slowly inching toward the finish line on this kitchen renovation!! When we do wrap, it will be the last of the big projects on a 5 year long journey of fixing up this house! I feel perhaps a little too familiar with living in a renovation…
Disclosure: this post is sponsored by the Edmonton Renovation Show featuring HGTV’s Bryan Baeumler, which runs January 25-27th, 2019.
So when the Edmonton Renovation Show reached out to me about their upcoming event in Edmonton on January 25-27- I was excited to share about it with you guys! It’s CANADIAN and it’s an amazing event for Albertan home owners. I have 2 tickets to giveaway for the show- so just leave a comment on my instagram post telling me what project you would love to reno in your home and you will be entered! You can gain an extra entry by leaving a comment below too.
I know we love a good before and after- and this year HGTV’s Bryan Baeumler will be sharing his tried and true tips on home renovation along with some local Alberta experts. It can be easy to have a romanticized idea about fixing up a house- but it’s a lot of work! So- if we can remember that real budgets and timelines exist- and that there are bound to be problems that mean we may need to compromise on some level- then at least we are on the right track!
I really deliberated on choosing lights… probably too much so! I think I might be dealing with some decision burn out. Anyone else have that? It’s like you start out knowing exactly what you want, and then by the end you are just questioning every single decision you’ve made? Tell me I am not the only one who goes through this. haha.
Let me take you down the light fixture, decision making rabbit hole. Once we took down the wall, everything felt so open and wonderful- and I was really thinking something with glass was what my heart desired- as it wouldn’t obstruct the sight lines.
But, every single light I showed Matt he more or less vetoed. I mean, ultimately he would be fine with whatever I picked- but I do want him to like things too. He just kept saying ” I feel like that will feel granny in a few years and we will just be switching it out.” So I kept searching… I decided to revisit my original design board for the kitchen.
I had wanted to incorporate copper wall sconces- but when we began demo and reconstruction it became really obvious that adding new outlets and boxes in the exterior wall was a total headache because of the sheet rock and shiplap. Matt worked hard enough 😉
I love the warmth of the copper- so I just decided to stick with it. These are a bit of a lighter copper than I anticipated- but they really make sense in real life, in the context of the room.
I found the lights on Amazon- and I’m pretty happy with them. They fit within my budget, and even came with bulbs! I really love the warmth they add.
I think it’s important to go into every project with a plan- a design plan, a budget plan and a time line plan. Of course any one (or all) of those things can end up being adjusted once the project gets underway- but it definitely helps me to stay on course.
