Have you ever seen the ad where the dad is skipping through the aisle because his kids are going back to school… and “the most wonderful time of the year” is playing in the background? It has always made me wonder, am I the only parent who wishes I could just buy 3 more months of summer? Maybe it’s because I live in the Tundra, but seriously… nature is my baby sitter, and there is nothing like floating from the garden to the beach all in the name of taking care of my kids.
When Wayfair.com asked me what could make my life a little easier as a parent when it comes to the “back to school” season, I was happy to team up with them! I had fun perusing their wide array of products and was surprised at the variety they offer. In case you are wondering- yes they ship to Canada!
So what does “back to school” look like in our house? While I don’t talk about it a ton, we homeschool. Yes, it’s true. I hang out with my kids all day and teach them things like reading, writing, arithmetic and stop motion animation. {No I don’t make all of our clothes, yes they are social, no I am not. 😉 #jokes} There are definitely things that I think could make my job a little easier, like a massage chair, cone of silence or toddler nanny. Unfortunately they are out of my budget.
Today I am pondering what it means to take care of the head mama, teacher, nanny, lead by example learner of the house… and what I would shop for if I created a back to school list just for me! Kind of like the mom version of pencils, indoor shoes and a labelled lunch box. My back to school list for moms is rooted in practicality… obviously. I want you to know that I seriously contemplated including a mason jar style shaker set with mini-mason jar shot glasses… but unless we are teaching bar tending, I just couldn’t justify it. Plus, I don’t drink shots. #lame #coolifyouareamom

Bodum Coffee Press Mug
In my mind this meets the criteria of a “genius invention”. If you are a mom, you can fully relate to pouring a cup of coffee and then getting distracted making kids breakie or changing a diaper…and voila! You have cold coffee. Most people would nuke it- but believe it or not, we don’t own a microwave! I feel like this mug was made for me because it caters to my morning coffee habit and my after 3pm tea habit. It’s insulated and says it will keep things hot for several hours. What can I say? I like to drink hot things. Best of all it works for at home and in the car.

A Planner
Ok, call me Miss Practical, but does anyone else love the possibility within a fresh, new, planner? {I have loved planners since I was about 9} It helps me keep track of field trips, lesson plans, grocery lists and meal plans. All things that keep my little mom hat firmly positioned with a purposeful tilt. Bonus Points if its pretty and has a “waterproof” cover. Even if I don’t keep to my weekly cleaning routine it doesn’t really matter… because I can always write a new list of things I have already accomplished and cross them off. #momlogic

Stott Pilates 3 DVD Set
I am going to be a little bit honest here. The reality of getting a gym membership is that it wouldn’t be money well spent out of my wallet. After all I do have 3 kids and live out in the boonies. The effort and time it would take to get us out to the gym, pack snacks, arrange childcare, and be consistent sounds like a nightmare workout in and of itself. Enter: At Home Work Outs. As a dancer I personally love Pilates. It is gentle yet effective and targets the core which is so very important, especially after having babies! I also love that you don’t need a ton of space or expensive equipment for MAT pilates. This little talk is motivating me right now! I think it’s time to have some me time 🙂

So there you have it. Those are just a few things on my wish list that would help to ease us in to the “back to school” routine. What about you?
