We have finished the drywall and have all of the trim installed in the mudroom! I have to tell you that my nesting, pregnant self is very pleased. Of course, this is an area we have wanted to finish for a while… but there is nothing like a baby deadline to get us motivated. Not mention one more body/carseat that has to come in and out this door throughout the winter. Widening the opening has made such a huge impact on our coming and goings…We had a light snow fall, and I was reminded how many clothes and boots winter requires. Ugh!
So here is a dark photo of the mudded drywall. I have to say our sanding/mudding skills have improved- as the finished wall is silky smooth.
Matt made all of the trim from MDF. Nearly all of the pieces needed to be custom cut or ripped to size anyways- so he just made it. While it’s a little more work to have to prime it all (I do love the pre-primed trim) it was a pretty small area to tackle. Once he had it installed, I filled and sanded it all- then used caulking along all the seams.
Our little entryway has a lot of quirk to it, but I have to admit I kind of love it. It is just nice to have a designated spot for coats and shoes… even if it is a mess most days. At least it’s all tucked out of the way. Our first house was a bi-level so the front door opened to a split stair case and there was nowhere for shoes and coats, they just filled up the landing- so this is a big upgrade!
You might also notice that I just went for it and painted the v-groove pine. The best method I have found is to brush the seams, and then roll the rest. I primed and got one coat of paint/primer up in simply white. It could use another coat, but I might just call it good enough for now.
I’ll be back to show you how it looks once all that trim is painted! I’m feeling quite accomplished I must say! Happy Weekend- and for all of my Canadian sweeties- Happy Thanksgiving.
