Lighting is one of my absolute favorite elements in a home. It can also be one the most expensive features to add… but it doesn’t have to be! I’m guilty of swooning over Restoration Hardware beauties, or Pottery Barn lovelies- but I have found that there is a way to get a similar look for less. It might not be identical, but it can come pretty darn close!
As a Canadian, we often don’t have the selection or budget friendly options that our neighbours to the South have. I did have awesome success ordering our large chandelier through a company called Canadian Lighting Experts. They offer discounts based on bulk orders- as well as free shipping and no duty.
I am really excited about this roundup because all of these lights are available from Canadian Big Box stores- which means that more then likely you could go to the store, walk in and grab a light- walk out and change it today! {disclaimer: hire a licensed electrician if you are not familiar with switching a light!}
2 tips: if you are building and don’t like the lighting options available through the home package- put the CHEAPEST lights in possible, then switch them out for something you love. Second tip- if you are looking for lakehouse lighting, shop the OUTDOOR lights. 99%of the time you will be able to get the look you want, for less… who doesn’t love that?
We have 3 of these lights in our house- I get asked the most questions about #1 and #3- when we bought #1 it was only $11.98! It feels like a little ship light- I’ve got 3 in my house, and I am sure we will use more in the old part as time allows.
All of these lights are under $60, 3 are under $30, and 3 are under $20! Can’t really beat that 😀
- Canarm LTD, $13.98 Home Depot Canda
- World Imports $57.42, Home Depot Canada
- Martes Outdoor, 23.24 Rona
- Newbury Outdoor, $28.49 Rona
- Ivy Lea Lantern, $22.49 Rona
- Lantern, $18.74 Rona
- Angelica Pendant $50.99 Rona
- Foto, Pendant Lamp $14.99 Ikea Canada
- Ottava, Pendant Lamp $59.99 Ikea Canada
One thing I will say about IKEA lights- they are cheap and it shows on the INSTALL- they look good once they are up, but the mounting hardware is very minimal and cheapy… if that makes sense. Be prepared to trim the wire on the pendants.
I hope you enjoyed this round up. Next week I will be sharing some more of my favorite lighting styles available for less! #2 is a little more farmhouse to me, but I think it still works well for a lakehouse too 😉
Which is your favorite?
