Even though it is welllllll past Christmas, I still wanted to share a bit from our Christmas and New Years! So, if you are Christmased out… skip this post? Otherwise- enjoy!
I mentioned on my fb page that we always head out for a Christmas Eve Skate… we started this tradition our first year of marriage. The one exception was the year we were in New Zealand, but we went to the beach on Christmas Day instead… so, that kind of makes up for it? I love this little tradition.. but I have to admit, it sometimes ends up as a photo op. For example, the first Christmas we took E out, he was 8 mths old, and it felt like -40. We lasted about 5 minutes, snapped a photo… and then went back to the car. This year was a bit interesting as well. Although E loves skating in theory, he is at the stage where he is really frustrated that he was not born knowing how to skate. So, he turns to jelly and plops down. Kind of annoying? But, he enjoyed cookies and hot chai on the sidelines for a bit, and we re-energized. It also didn’t help that our kids were up until like midnight on the 23… but, thankfully we survived the festivities!!
Our day went something like this
- Wake Up. Eat
- Re-iterate to hubby that E’s skates from last year DO NOT fit. (his feet grew 3 sizes)
- Sigh of relief that E has lots of boy cousins… and many skates! Even some in his size
- Pack up cookies, chai, skates, mitts, and kids.
- Arrive at the ponds to what is the most beautiful Christmas Eve Day in my memory!
- Skate.
- Naps for all.
- Get ready for Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
- Go to Christmas Eve Service. Be amazed by the gift we have been given!
- Go to sister/brother-in-laws for food, fun, and cousin/grandkid gift opening.
- Stay up way too late? But have lots of fun.
- Amidst Screaming, crying kids, try to remind yourself why you do this… to yourself.
I love this cheese monkey!
my boys enjoying some mid skate refueling. cookies and {caf free} chai of course!
taking it all in on the sidelines. how is he so big?
Here is a sneak peek of my sis-in-laws fireplace that we re-did… can you believe that used to be orange/brown brick?!
Notice my sister-in-laws cute wall paper on the entrance wall?? Yes. Cute.
My sweet hubby and I… at like 10pm. Because you need a pic on Christmas Eve right?! (note… 10pm is late for us ‘rents. also note. fireplace again)
Well… I think I will be making up for my lack of Wordless Wednesdays/ posts in general over the last few weeks… so, we will call this “Holiday Recap #1” Christmas day, and New Years will probably be 2+3. Oh I love that it is January 14. It isn’t so bad right? 😉
What were you up to over Christmas? Any special or new traditions with little ones, or your spouse? I love that we are beginning to have our own family traditions that will mark that “christmas” feeling for our boys, and have already started to do so for us!
