We Tore Out Some Walls!

Working on our house has been a long process, and while we made ourselves promises about finishing all the little things before we moved into our addition- it didn’t happen. I am trying to finish off some of those projects to get some items officially off the list! One of those items is the connecting point between the old house and our addition. We enclosed what used to be a porch, and opened up some walls to what was our back entry and laundry area. It has been dirty, messy and an all around eyesore!

Before we can renovate the kitchen, we needed to open up a wall, and close in a window- then figure out our flooring situation. The first place we are starting is with our small mudroom. This acts as our family’s main entry into the house. You might remember last year when I painted the grungy shiplap, and Matt and I added a built in for all of our coats, shoes and such as.Opening Walls | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceOpening Walls | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceOpening Walls | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

I threw a bit of paint at the room in an attempt to clean it up, and it most certainly helped! You can read about the little phase 1 transformation here and here.Opening Walls | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceOpening Walls | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

So it was a mess, we made it not so bad- but it has just been waiting to be finished. So we started out opening up the wall into the “hall.” Excuse my beautiful phone pictures- but it is progress friends! This is real time- so no pretty staged after today for you.

I can not tell you what a difference this makes! It is so open and wonderful. I was so excited I just left the shoes and junk everywhere. haha. It doesn’t look like much now, but it is going to be lovely. I pulled out the old window, and we will be drywalling from the last full row of shiplap up. Perhaps I will do a fun paint color there, or a little wall paper… who knows! But I am just so excited to case in that opening, get everything trimmed and painted and have a finished entry way…

While we took this wall out we also did some demo on the wall just to the right which heads into the kitchen. Our house is *starting* to feel like one space- and I can’t wait. Baby steps though. In terms of the hall area- we need to install new flooring, pine the ceiling, change the boob light, and we will also be enclosing our laundry area with some doors. I’ve had curtains there for a while as a short term solution until we could tackle this space. I think it’s going to be so pretty.

I’ll be back with an update next week- hoping things go nice and smooth. Don’t we all?
