The Friendship Quilt That Made Me Cry

A while back I mentioned the vintage friendship quilt that made me cry… Every time I talk about it I still get a little teary eyed. I don’t know what it was about that day {ok, maybe it was the fact that I was 9 months pregnant and out antiquing with some of my favorite friends} but this quilt struck a chord the moment I spotted it.

We were wandering through a huge antique mall… I had my runners on. I saw some lovely things, but to be honest, I always love furniture, and we had no room for such things. So, I was mostly trying to keep my eye out for crates and cheese boxes for my sweet Joc’s pantry {which I need to snap photos of because it is amazing!} We were kind of mulling around, maybe looking at vintage kids toys {because apparently when you finally get out of the house without your kids you shop for them} When I saw a quilt draped over a chair.

I picked it up, and checked the tag “Vintage Friendship Quit” and my heart skipped a beat when I realized it was all hand stitched. I shook it open and my eyes began to scan all of the beautiful pieces of fabric, put together to form a tapestry that spoke of love and comfort. They began to well up with tears as I read the names. 2 of my friends {Joc and Laila} saw me staring at the quilt. I explained, and there we were, all three of us crying in the middle of the antique mall… wondering why the quilt was there in the first place, but so thankful we had found it. Now, I have to take this moment to state how absolutely ridiculous we must have looked, a very pregnant mamma holding a quilt crying and blubbering with her 2 friends {who get very high pitched when they are excited and emotional} It was at that moment when our other friend Marcie (who I really did not know well at all at the point) came across the 3 of us crying, shrugged her shoulders…. and probably thought we were getting just a tad to over the top about this quilt. It does make me laugh now.

And that my friends is the story of the Vintage Friendship Quilt that made me cry. The girls stated… “we cried, how could you not buy it?” So I carried it around, and thought, perhaps this will be a part of this sweet baby’s room… So, who knows. It might just be the jumping off point for Finley’s little abode when we move her out of our room.

That day I also grabbed this Canadian Apple crate, and I love the colors in the label.

applecratequilt and snow shoesI need to find a place of honor for these beautiful authentically Canadian snow shoes that belong to Matt’s mom! Aren’t they wonderful. Oh how they too speak of adventure and memories….the above shot can pretty much be summed up with one word “Canadiana”

Can you tell I love adventure? And stories… and items that speak of a life well lived.

I hope you have a wonderful start to you week. Seek out adventure today and always!

  1. hi mizzzz ash
I love the quilt, what also captured me about that quilt was the six points on the stars. most stars you see have five points, ( maybe quilts have six I’m not sure), the Star of David has six points…⭐️✨
