The Beverage Bar

Things have been a little house heavy the last while, I hope you don’t mind? I spent some time last week snapping some photos… You know what’s crazy? I have been blogging for 4 years. But, in all fairness, I have not posted much in the last 2 years. Right before we moved out here I had just started to gain some “momentum” with my blog. I don’t really know what that means…And then the domain change and no internet situation occurred, and things sort of went to sleep. The thing is, I have really missed sharing in this capacity. It is something I enjoy. So, thank you for being a part of that for me. Special thanks to my commenters… mom, Mo and Deborah 😉 Ok… sometimes there are other people too. {I’m laughing to myself.}

So, back to our little beverage bar. You may have caught a glimpse of this in the living room post a few weeks ago. I mentioned that it was a “wish list” item for Matt. We were originally going to put our laundry here {I know… that would have been awful} because when you draw things on paper you make weird decisions. Thankfully we nixed that plan. Aye. Then we decided to have cabinets and eventually a mini-fridge. Of course, Matt wanted a cool one. He is kind of a big tech nerd, but don’t tell him I said so. Seriously this fridge is nicer then all of our kitchen appliances combined. It’s a bit funny. But he got it for a discount {because that’s how we roll} because there is a dent on the side, which no one will ever see.

The cabinets have solid wood fronts, and believe it, or not, they were pre-built cabinets from Rona. They were so reasonably priced, and we basically took our rough measurements during framing and figured out a layout. We bought 3 uppers and 3 lowers, without much of a plan. The incredible thing is, they fit PERFECTLY on the wall. Like, it’s almost a bit unbelievable. We had to source an itty bitty sink, because when Matt was roughing in the plumbing for the house he decided he wanted a sink for filling the coffee maker or wiping the counter up… thats the blessings and curse of doing things your self- you have the ability to over think every decision and change anything and everything! So, we ordered a hand hammered copper sink from Egypt. On Ebay. $50. Our tap came from Overstock.com

bar2The only plan I had for finishing products when we started the addition {aside from tongue and groove pine} was to find that marble hex tile and use it somewhere. I just think it’s beautiful. It was only a small area so we were able to swing it. The counter top is quartz, and that came from the “bone yard” at a local stone supply yard… meaning, it was a remnant that we were able to get for a discount. Budget. That is yet another item I picked up in my van, with Finley. Matt and I installed it on our own. It weighed over 300 lbs. I don’t want to talk about it, but let’s just say, I was strong.

My plan with the cabinets has always been to paint them, but for now I am not minding the dark wood. It works. {I know, some people love wood, and would never paint it. I love wood to, and sometimes I paint it.} We have plans to build out a wine storage thing on the top…there are a few inspiration pics on my Pinterest Living Room board. We also need to create a valance along the underside of the upper cabinets to conceal the lighting.

The real piece to this little beverage bar puzzle will be selecting hardware for the cabinets…I’d like to go with handles and no pulls- in an oil rubbed bronze or matte black. Decisions… decisions.

This is a fun and functional little corner. Let me know if you have any questions 🙂
