Simply White Trim and a Painted Ceiling

The trim and ceiling paint are done! Everything is painted out in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, and I love how bright and clean it feels now. All that is really left in here is to run the hardwood through the hallway- which we hope to get to soon, but I’m not sure when it will happen. We will then have just a bit of baseboard to install and touch up.

You may recall that I was debating over staining vs. painting the pine up here. I actually loved the plain pine too- but not with all of the other wood tones that were going on in our home. In the end I decided to paint it Simply White.Simply White Trim and Pine Ceiling | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceSimply White Trim and Pine Ceiling | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

Visually it makes sense from the living room, and also keeps the hallway nice and bright. The ceiling drops to 8 ft in the hallway (which was the original rear entry to the old farmhouse) but the ceiling still feels high with the bright white, and more unified with our addition- as it has the same ceiling treatment running through. We will also carry the pine into the kitchen and dining area.Simply White Trim, Shiplap Walls, Diplomat Blue door | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

While I was busy painting, I also gave all the shiplap in the mudroom a fresh coat of Simply White, and touched up the door. It is painted in “Diplomat Blue” from Behr. I’m still not sure what color I’ll paint the drywall. I even thought it might be a fun spot for some wall paper… but who knows! I am just happy to have this space so close to finished and functional!!

Here is what we’ve changed so far:

  • opened the wall between the kitchen and hall
  • moved electrical
  • framed in the reclaimed posts and beam casing
  • opened the wall between the mudroom and hall
  • framed in a laundry closet
  • hung double doors
  • removed a window
  • framed in old window opening, mudded/taped drywall
  • installed v-groove pine on the ceiling
  • installed an old barn light
  • installed custom trim
  • caulking + wood filler on all trim
  • paint! alllll the things.

It’s amazing how many jobs go into a “small” project- but it’s totally worth it! This area has felt like a construction zone for years- so I am feeling pretty pumped about all the progress we have made. Not to mention I got all of the baby blankies and clothes washed and put away- set up the dresser in our room and moved our youngest into her “big girl” bed.

Hope you have a lovely week,

-Miss Ash
