My Favorite Room Reveals from 2016

I feel like this was the year of starting to turn our house into a home. I took on a couple of One Room Challenges, and finally tackled some rooms that needed love. Doing a “room reveal” is pretty fun- and I love having some motivation to help me tackle larger projects. I’ll admit that there is a lot of trial and error when it comes to working on a space. The frugal part of me has a hard time spending money on decor- so I am always trying to make what I have work- or hack a piece to get what I want.

Creating a home you love is something that has become a passion of mine- not just in our home- but helping others get there as well. I think it’s possible to achieve this on any budget. I have also shared a bit of my own heart over the year, about finding contentment in our home. It’s so easy to look at a picture that displays the best, and feel less than or inadequate.

These pictures are from the clean, pretty moments. I love styling and photographing our home, but I can guarantee you, with 3 kids in the house, and a revolving door of construction projects- our home is very often a mess!

Matt and I built this bathroom in our new addition. Things we learned- subway tile is a job and a half especially when you take it up to the top of a 9ft ceiling! We are so glad we went with one sink, and extra counter space ( people ask me often) and our pocket door to the bedroom works wonderfully to give us a master en suite, while still allowing use for the rest of the house. This room was also my first feature on Apartment Therapy.

The Boys Cottage Bunk Room

This room is still in need of some finishing touches like trim- but oh my goodness did it come a long way this year. My kids love it. This was my first time participating in Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge, and found it as a great motivator. This room has been featured on House BeautifulWayfair, in Everything Home Magazine and over at Nesting With Grace. It’s still pretty crazy to type that all out!

Our Farmhouse Kitchen

I just couldn’t take our orange, woody, dark kitchen any more- so armed with a $17 quart of paint I started removing the doors late one night- and had them painted and back up by the next afternoon. The result is a more cheerful little space, and that paint job has held up really well. It’s still old and quirky but such a huge improvement! This room has been featured on Apartment Therapy.

Boys Coastal Bathroom

Infusing this room with some personality was so much fun! Working in small spaces presents a unique challenge, but it also doesn’t take much to pull it all together. I painted the vanity in Country Chic Paint’s Rustic Charm, and added some industrial style shelves. This is the 2 piece bathroom in our boys room- and I wanted it to have a nautical feel to it. That rope mirror and the shiplap wainscoting paired with the navy walls are my favorite parts.

Our Christmas Living Room Tour

Decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do. I kind of went all out with fresh cedar garland from Home Depot… they were too pretty to resist! I enjoy creating a cozy Christmas space now that we have a pretty mantle and open stair case.

The Loft Family Room Reveal

This room was definitely my favorite project of the year! Before tackling it as part of my second One Room Challenge it was a catchall space that needed major finishing. Life got busy- and the painting and trim is not 100% complete (story of my life!) but we use it all the time now! It is such a great hang out space for our family. The ruffled chair covers and last minute media console are right up there with the Ikea cabinet hack… those doors are just too pretty!

What a wonderful year for projects! We’ve got a few more up our sleeves for the new year… I hope you’ve enjoyed following the process as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing about it!
