The List of House Projects Yet to Be Complete

January has been relatively productive. I formulated my mental New Year’s to do list for “finishing off a few lurking house projects.” Thinking about the office got me really excited to tackle that space- but before I do there are still a few more projects/rooms I need to work on first! This doesn’t include some larger projects like trim and paint in the loft or refinishing siding… since the siding is seasonal, and I am focusing on finishing little things on the main floor first 😉 (I use that word lightly, since everything is littler than building a house!)

This is my “get it done before March is over” list!

  • refresh the mudroom  this room is more or less “done” for now- until we tackle phase 2 which won’t take place until we reno our kitchen. I have a few things to wrap up on the built ins- but I’ll share that in another post
  • finish the fireplace stone- there are a few cuts that need to be made for the face, and a few more stones that need to be added to the sides. Once that is done I will need to fill all the joints. This will take us a day, but we need to do it sans-busy toddler.
  • finish the living room built ins- we started these last summer before we went to my sister’s wedding, and we haven’t touched them since. We need to trim them out and finish painting them. The good news is we have all the materials on site as of 2 weeks ago! The not so good news is we need to wrap up the stone install first- which means we need a toddler sitter.
  • Master Bedroom- this room almost get’s it’s own list- but tasks include: finish crown moulding, add a jamb and trim to closet door, header trim to pocket door, baseboard to closet wall, change out light fixture, white wash or stain the ceiling, install speaker. Not to mention a new headboard and side tables!
  • painting our beverage bar cabinets- that has always been in the works but it’s time to actually do it!

I think it might just be the last item on my to-do list that I get to first. I know a lot of people have mentioned that they like the dark cabinets- but they just aren’t what we envisioned. Matt has been fully on board since day one with painting them (he is a man that is ok with painted wood- he even suggested painting our kitchen floors white! He’s so on trend… ) Initially I though a soft tealy/blue- but after painting our kitchen cabinets I realized I really don’t like having such a permanent thing painted in a color. At least I know I wouldn’t in our living room. So, then I thought white, but Matt suggested grey. Which I also like. So that leads me to a little poll of sorts.

Here are our cabinets. Mostly I’d like you to notice the backsplash and counter top colors.

The backsplash is marble and the counters are a white quartz. The walls are painted in BM Grey Owl lightened by 50%, and the trim is Simply White. We could paint the cabinets white OR, we could go for a muted grey or a dark  grey. OR we could go for a colored grey. {just invented that term, but it makes perfect sense to me!} After painting the shutter above our Mantle I decided I love the color, and wondered about going 2 tone with a similar color to MMS Shutter Grey on the bottom and white up top…

Ok, now that we have everything sorted, this color is similar to the MMS Shutter Grey… kind of. Similar in that it has blue under tones.

This is my version of a “colored” grey, becaues it reads grey but also bluey/green.

This would be an example of a 2 tone with a “colored” grey on the bottom. I wouldn’t go so taupey/tan on the uppers though… more white.

These are more grey/green- but that is the light grey I am talking about.

I really like this darker grey- but have 2 concerns. Would it be too heavy because there or so many uppers, and if I did 2 tone would it be too much of a contrast.

So, do you see my dilemma? I like too many things. ha! While I make no promises of following your advice, I would love to hear what you would choose. You can take this easy poll, or leave your answer and reasoning {if you so choose} in the comments!

What Cabinet Finish would you choose?

White
Light Grey
Dark Grey
2 Toned: white uppers, MMS Shutter Grey Lowers
2 Toned: white uppers, blue/green grey lowers
Colored Grey. ie. blue/green grey uppers and lowers.

My gut says white because it’s timeless, but my heart is saying 2 toned… or dark. Or? AH!
