Can you relate to getting 95% finished on a project and then not quite finishing it off? I will admit that seems to happen to us a lot because we have so many projects going on- not to mention we are self employed! So- while I wish we could just dedicate time to our house build, the reality is it’s been a side project that we pick away at. Amidst building our 1100 sf addition, and literally doing all of the work ourselves (with a bit of help here and there!) we have also renovated 2 different commercial studios over the last 2.5 years, Matt has completed a feature film- I homeschool our kiddos and as I write this list, I realize we might be a bit crazy 😉 So I’m just going to stop there.
This post isn’t about all that we do- but it is good to remind myself why things sometimes don’t get finished. One of those projects that had been staring me in the face was our fireplace. You see- I was working on the stone work one evening while Matt had to go make an airport run- and ran out of cement. So it stopped there… we needed to cut a few pieces for the front, and get a bit more stone for the sides. So, the stone sat un-pointed and un-finished… because we needed to put in the last pieces.
Once the mess is all cleaned up and put away, half the battle is just pulling it all out again. But I am soooo happy to report that my sweet love cut and installed the last of the stone to make our fireplace DONE! I then went behind him and “pointed” everything… which is kind of like grouting in between all of the finished stone. The beauty of our fireplace is that it’s rustic and forgiving. I love having this project finished.
It has me motivated to install the face frames on our half painted built ins… baby steps! Baby steps I tell ya.
