Oh sweet friends, I hope you are well and have had a relaxing, love filled Christmas season. I was working on updating my DIY Design Ideas Page, and kind of couldn’t believe all of the projects I was able to complete in 2016!! Wow. I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite projects here with you. It’s always fun to step into the new year by first looking back on what was accomplished this year. It reminded me of quite a few projects I had forgotten about.
I built this during nap time using free plans from Ana White. I still absolutely love it! I used scrap wood and chalk paint- and built like a frantic mama as part of the One Room Challenge- in which I made over our Boys Shared Bunk Room. It is so functional as book storage, but would look amazing in a kitchen for plates and cook books too.
Everything about this sweet gingham fabric makes me happy… add the ruffles and it’s one of my favorite things in the house! This little cover is perfectly imperfect and inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Miss Mustard Seed.

While many of the projects I share about on the blog are either full room reveals or furniture makeovers, I do quick projects too. Admittedly I don’t blog about as many as I’d like, but I had been wanting to paint my wooden spoon tops for ages. This was such a fun project to complete!

This year was pretty exciting in that I became a contributing blogger for Remodelaholic. I created this headboard using scrap wood for a pallet wood challenge that Cassity hosted, and I love the way it turned out. I was inspired by one of my favorite people- Miss Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper. I love her style- and felt that sweet little scallop mixed with white “shiplap” would have been right up her alley.
This fridge is dated and old- a bit of a relic, that’s for sure! While we are planning to renovate our kitchen in the coming year, this whimsical update was fast and fun. I had never worked with wall paper before, and it went better than expected. I still have a video tutorial, so I’ll have to get on editing that- and post it eventually!

Have I told you how much I love this wardrobe? I really love it! It was part of our Loft Family Room Makeover that I worked on as a participant of the One Room Challenge. I purchased the most inexpensive flat pack wardrobe I could find, then customized the doors using MDF trim, and upgraded the side with pine planks. I still need to finish trim and buy hardware… new years goal?
I just shared this a few weeks ago, but this mini stockings are so precious, I couldn’t not mention them.

Thanks so much for your encouragement this year. Whether you are new or have been a reader for a long time, I always appreciate your comments. I love DIY, and believe that anyone can work on projects- the first step is just starting. It is so exciting to sketch out a plan and be able to carry it out. With a few simple tools- you really can accomplish a lot. On the note of tools- I’d say my favorite are my pneumatic nail gun, chop saw and sander. A good paint brush is also one of my preferred DIY tools of choice!
