DIY Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets

Good Morning Lovelies! Industrial pipe shelf brackets are a great way to add character to a space and are really affordable when you make them yourself! I decided to DIY this project for our boys colorful kids powder room, and never shared the tutorial here on my blog. So today I am going to show you how easy it is to DIY these Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets.

First I want to show you how I added personality to this tiny space. Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

I took a basic builder vanity from HD, and painted it out in Country Chic Chalk Paint. I kept the same door hardware, but spray painted them Matte Black. Here is what it looked like before.Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

Because it is such a small room, I wanted to bring in some color and personality. That is where these shelves came in. They allowed me to utilize the space above the toilet in a fun and flexible way. My boys don’t need much in the way of storage, so we keep their necessities in the cabinet. Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

  • 5/4″x6″ Cedar Deck Board (my method for creating faux reclaimed wood is here)
  • 3/4″x6″ Black Threaded Pipe (4)
  • 3/4″ Mounting Flange (4)
  • 3/4″ Black Pipe Cap (4)
  • 1/2″ Steel Strapping
  • 3/4″ Wood Screws
  • Optional: Drywall Anchors

Tools:

  • Drill
  • Saw for cutting Cedar Boards
  • Tin Snips for Cutting Strapping
  • Level

To give the brackets a cohesive feel, I spray painted the galvanized mounting flange(s) with matte black spray paint.

I recommend wiping the metal pipe down, as they are a bit greasy! Then just thread the pieces together.Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceIndustrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

For the shelves I aged a cedar deck board using this method, then cut it to length.

If you can’t attach into studs, this is where the drywall anchors come in! Don’t skip them, as your brackets WILL come out of the wall over time. Be sure to check for level too.Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceIndustrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceIndustrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceIndustrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance

To secure the brackets in place I used the metal strapping, and it worked wonderfully.Industrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceIndustrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas DanceIndustrial Pipe Shelf Brackets | via Ashlea of This Mamas Dance
