Floors, doors and all that jazz!

Oh My GOODNESS YA’LL! We have ALL of our floors chosen! Glory! (I guess floors bring out the su-then in me ;-)) (aka. southern)

I can’t really describe why some choices are so easy and others not! The pine planking, easy! Done. The bathroom tile, dreamed of it, loved it. Done. Carpet for the upstairs, let’s just get something, great!

But, the hardwood for the main floor… My goodness. I think I looked at 200 samples… well maybe thats an exaggeration. I had something in mind, but had a hard time finding just the right floors. I love the look of dark floors, but we had them in our last place, and they are just a lot of work to keep clean. Or at least to keep looking clean. With 3 kids, living at the lake… I just didn’t want something that would show every crumb and every grain of sand. I also wanted a light, bright “cottagey” feel. I think we found the happy medium.

Surprisingly to me, we went with a white oak. I loved the walnut options, because the variation in the planks is so beautiful, however it can really change over time (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if you love the look) I did receive a wood floor education in the process: Handscraped, wire brushed, milled, chatter marks… hard woods, soft woods…and so it goes. I felt like a bit of a kid in a candy store, I just love wood I guess? The people at Carpet Color in Red Deer were AMAZINGLY helpful… I was in there on 3 different occasions, and brought home 2-3 samples each time… they just always look a bit different once you get them home.

I am so excited to share our progress with the house. In the morning I do a little walk about with my coffee… if the kids allow. Most days are spent between mom duties, and addition duties… ordering, painting, shopping, helping where I can, and cleaning up! I will be so happy when we are finished with cutting and generating SAW DUST! It is a constant battle to keep the dust down.

I am feeling a bit tired right now, but the finish line is in site! 🙂 I can’t believe it is nearly September… eek! I have most of E’s curriculum organized to start Grade 1 mid September, and am looking forward to sharing more with you about what we have chosen. I am SO excited about the science curriculum we will be doing… nerd alert!
