She’s Here!

You last heard from me May 5… very pregnant and antsy for the arrival of our new baby. While I won’t share the birth story today, I am SO happy to say that our sweet girl arrived May 7! Not a moment too soon. It was a long labour, and I think my most challenging of all my kids, but we will talk about that another day. We are so in love and happy to be home, growing into life as a family of 5. Somehow she is 10 weeks old, which has seemed to have flown by.

Spring has come and gone, and we are into the early days of summer. My garden is in bloom, alongside the weeds that seem to want to grow everywhere… those darn weeds! My first outing with the 3 littles was to the greenhouse. My boys have a love of all things flowers, gardening and seeds. We could collaboratively spend hours at the greenhouse… wandering the rows and rows of perennials, annuals, shrubs and bushes. This year I am not doing too much in the way of pots. I let the boys pick some annuals to plant their own pots, and I grabbed just a few bright red geraniums and a dahlia. I am trying to establish my perrenial garden… Apart from 5 or 6 trees on our property (3 huge and 3 pretty tiny) there was one shrub on our property when we moved here. I look forward to next summer when I will have more time to wander the rows, water and enjoy the sites and smells.

We are making some wonderful house progress! I am painting these days… painting ya’ll! Our bedroom is done in BM Simply White, and I am currently painting the living room, which I will now dub “The Great Room,” in BM Gray Owl, lightened by 50%. I first decided to look at this color after seeing it in Kevin and Layla’s living room/kitchen. By “seeing” I mean via their photos on their blog, The Lettered Cottage. I really liked the way it seemed to read a nice blue/grey…

I originally tried a sample of full strength Gray Owl, but felt it was a bit too dark.  I had initially planned to do an off white in the Great Room, but Matt felt that would be too white, and requested a gray. We used the primer as a “let’s see how we like the white” and essentially decided a soft gray would be a nice contrast with our stained ceiling… as well as make our window and door trim really pop. In the end we went with Gray Owl, lightened by 50%. The manager at the paint store was a bit uncertain of my decision, but I have to say I am loving the way it looks so far! We get so much natural light in that room, and the color mutates through out the day.

I hope to be back in the near future as baby, boys, painting and laundry allow… and not to mention hot days out at the lake! What is filling up your summer days?
